XC Summer Camp Returns!

A camp with the purpose to help your athlete

  • -Be in excellent condition and be well prepared for the fall cross country season,
  • This is the primary reason for having the camp. But we dig deeper in the other areas!
  • -Teach the athletes the “why” behind the training.
  • Training is a big puzzle. You have to put all the right pieces in the right spot at the right time. We are big on the runners understanding the different aspects of training. We would rather have our athletes understand why they do what they do instead of just blindly doing what they are told. This makes running a more enjoyable experience.
  • – Make running a fun and memorable experience.
  • All of the coaches at the camp are outgoing athletes who will be a lot of fun to work with. They are primarily college age and have multiple years of running experience. We will also be having fun at the camp. We will have themed days where everyone is encouraged to dress in a particular theme (the theme might be a color, or a super hero) also some days we have games after we run.
  • -To instill a passion for running that lasts a lifetime.
  • As I’m sure you know San Antonio doesn’t top the charts when it comes to fitness as a city. It might be hard to change today’s generation but we believe we can change tomorrows generation and see running as a means to do that.

Additional information

We have a multiple member family discounts. Additionally there will be 3 scholarships that athletes can apply for by emailing Christian P. Chacon at cp.chacon@yahoo.com by May 31st. Applications for the scholarship should be 500 words detailing what they hope to gain from the camp and how they think running plays an important role in their lives.

Also the camp will be benefitting the American Cancer Society with $10 from every registrant going to their Determination program.

No Foolin’ – Soler’s does great races!

Soler’s Sports launched a brand new event this past weekend — the Happy April Fools Day 5k. With pranks and tricks throughout, it was a hit for the San Antonio running community! Here’s a sample of the great feedback we received:

I wasn’t sure who to send this email to, but I wanted to thank everyone who was involved in the April Fool’s Day 5k. My name is Kristen Dicianna and I teach a wellness class for UIW. I had several of my non-traditional students sign up and this was to be their very first 5k. It just so happened that everyone in my class either won an award OR they won a door prize. It was incredible and such a positive experience for all of them. My wellness class is a required course by UIW for them to graduate, so all students must take this class. Many of my students are ages 25-65 and very sedentary. I try to encourage a more active life-style with my teaching and also asking them to do a 5k. This was the absolute perfect 5k for them to attend. I attend many of your 5ks and they all have been great but this one was over the top. Thank you for your hard work and dedication. We will be attending many more and I hope the April Fool’s becomes an Annual Race.

Sincerely,

Kristen Dicianna

There is also an entertaining blog report with photos from Scottydog posted in the Runners World community.

If you’re looking for a well-run (no pun intended!) race in the San Antonio area, then look to Soler’s Sports. We’ve been running this town for over 22 years and we know how to take care of you on race day! The Soler’s race management division under the direction of Sherri Purnell produces top-notch events throughout the area all year long. Visit the Race Calendar and look for events in red — these are Soler’s Sports sponsored events — and be confident in a great race experience! And if you have a run or walk and need help with race organization, drop Sherri a line!
