XC Summer Camp Returns!

A camp with the purpose to help your athlete

  • -Be in excellent condition and be well prepared for the fall cross country season,
  • This is the primary reason for having the camp. But we dig deeper in the other areas!
  • -Teach the athletes the “why” behind the training.
  • Training is a big puzzle. You have to put all the right pieces in the right spot at the right time. We are big on the runners understanding the different aspects of training. We would rather have our athletes understand why they do what they do instead of just blindly doing what they are told. This makes running a more enjoyable experience.
  • – Make running a fun and memorable experience.
  • All of the coaches at the camp are outgoing athletes who will be a lot of fun to work with. They are primarily college age and have multiple years of running experience. We will also be having fun at the camp. We will have themed days where everyone is encouraged to dress in a particular theme (the theme might be a color, or a super hero) also some days we have games after we run.
  • -To instill a passion for running that lasts a lifetime.
  • As I’m sure you know San Antonio doesn’t top the charts when it comes to fitness as a city. It might be hard to change today’s generation but we believe we can change tomorrows generation and see running as a means to do that.

Additional information

We have a multiple member family discounts. Additionally there will be 3 scholarships that athletes can apply for by emailing Christian P. Chacon at by May 31st. Applications for the scholarship should be 500 words detailing what they hope to gain from the camp and how they think running plays an important role in their lives.

Also the camp will be benefitting the American Cancer Society with $10 from every registrant going to their Determination program.

USA Fit Kickoff in Helotes

If you are thinking about training for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon or Half Marathon this year, then you need to come check out USA Fit San Antonio on Saturday! We are hosting a kickoff event from 8 am – 2 pm.

Pick up your packet if you are already registered, or just come to hear out what we are all about! Need to gear up for training? We’ll have plenty of staff on hand to give you a personal shoe fit evaluation, too!

The first 100 people to register or pickup a packet on Saturday get a free “In Training” t-shirt!

8:00 am – “Pace Finder” walk/run
9:00 am – Info session and Q&A
11:00 am – Info session and Q&A
1:00 pm – Info session and Q&A
* Registration and packet pickup available all day

Food, music & casual fun all day long!

What is the “Pace Finder” walk/run? If you don’t already know your pace group for the training, we encourage you to participate in a 1 or 3 mile pace finder walk or run. Your time for the 1 or 3 miles will place you in a color group for your training. You should walk or run at a pace where you feel you could keep going for a little bit beyond those 1 or 3 miles. If you couldn’t keep walking or running after completing our initial 1 or 3 mile pace finder then you are going too fast. All walkers are in our Purple Group regardless of pace.

There is no need to register for the Pace Finder, just come ready to walk or run! Can’t make it Satuday? We will have additional “pace finder” opportunities at each training site on May 21st.

The first Saturday of the month is also Helotes Market Day, so plan to make a day of it and bring the whole family!

Get summer on the calendar!

This week kicks off registration for Soler’s Summer Running Camp — an 8-week camp targeted at middle school through college-aged athletes who are looking to make their cross country season the best yet. Although cross country will be the main focus you can also participate if you desire to get in shape for a fall sport or just aim to get in amazing shape (beach bodies anyone?). This camp isn’t just for the 5-minute milers rather for all abilities looking to train through the summer.

We are so excited for this summer because this year there will be a few really great changes that will make this year’s camp be the biggest, most fun, and best camp yet!

Kicking things off we will be having not one but THREE separate locations this year (1. Stone Oak/McAllister Park   2. Helotes/O.P. Schnabel Park   3. Olmos Park). With 3 locations, finding the one that is the most convenient for you will be very simple. Each site will be following the same training program simply headed up by a head coach and led at a different location.

This year we are going to be having a lot of fun at the camp. To ensure that this happens we have created the “fun committee”. They are dedicated to work ‘round the clock to continuously come up with fun and crazy, cool ideas to keep you coming to San Antonio’s #1 place to run and train during summer 2011.

Our fun committee started by getting some really cool speakers. We have
great college coaches coming to talk as well as some other great speakers. You won’t want to miss out!

To add to the fun they next created “Funner Fridays”- all three locations will meet together (alternating between the three locations) 5 different Fridays throughout the course of the camp. These Fridays will be the crazy fun days that will have either a time trial or game day (don’t worry we will still run before our games). Each “Funner Fridays” will have a recommended theme (it could be a sport team, a color, the 70’s etc.) that will be announced the Monday before.

Other perks to the camp include: Awards for best attendance Male and Female, Awards for most improved Male and Female, 20% discount on running shoes, apparel, and accessories at all four Soler’s locations for the duration of the camp. Also there is a special promotion for first time registrants who sign up in the store (so make sure you ask).

So head to the stores and get signed up so we can help show you that our training is more than just miles — its smiles too!

Stay Safe in Winter Months

With winter almost here, the days continue to get shorter and shorter, and the weather is cooler, making it possible to run any time of day. If you run in the dark it’s very important to be SAFE and VISIBLE! Soler’s carries a wide variety of reflective gear and lights to help keep you visible as a runner or cyclist. Specific products include reflective vests, arm bands, ankle bands, and a variety of long-lasting LED blinking, steady, and strobe lights to make you visible to the cars on the road. Even our arm-warmers, hydration belts, and some apparel have reflectivity to help keep you safe.
Please keep safe this winter. We’ll see you out on the road!
