Event Information

Get ready for a feel-good race with a whole lot of heart!

Join us for a one-of-a-kind event at Comanche Park, where community, purpose, and fun come together along the beautiful Salado Creek Greenway. Whether you’re chasing a new challenge in the 4-mile run or soaking up the morning with friends and family in the 1-mile walk, this event is designed so everyone can be part of the movement.

What makes this race special isn’t just the scenic, shaded trail or the unique distance — it’s why we’re out there. This event raises funds and awareness for the ALS Association, an organization dedicated to discovering treatments and a cure for ALS while supporting people and families affected by this devastating disease. Every step you take helps fund vital research, advocacy, and care services for those living with ALS.

The idea for Miles 4 Muscles sparked a few years ago following the loss of my stepfather, Greg Lamparter in March of 2023. He was diagnosed with ALS officially in 2019 but started showing symptoms in 2018. From his official diagnosis until that March, he fought hard for 4 years, hence the number 4 in our title. He was a very tall, active and strong man prior to this disease. Having grown up on farms, you can imagine how much strength he had, but by the end he was unable to pick up a tortilla chip. That is how powerful this disease is. Fortunately for his case, he did not lose his voice and was able to continue being his usual humorous, loving, and caring bright light to the world up until the very end. Through this race and these funds, we are honoring not only Greg, but the entire communities affected by this disease, those diagnosed, the nurses and care givers, the spouses who never leave their side, and the families who have to watch this disease run its course due to lack of treatment or a cure. This race is your chance to run for those who once could, but no longer can, for those who wish they had the abilities you do. Do it to honor them!

Expect high-energy vibes, encouragement from fellow participants, and the kind of atmosphere that reminds you why running and walking together matters. This isn’t just a race — it’s a chance to move with purpose, celebrate life, and make a real impact, all while enjoying one of San Antonio’s most scenic greenways.

Come for the fun. Stay for the cause. Leave knowing your miles mattered.
