One In A Million 5K Run/Walk

Event Date:  Saturday, September 19, 2026, 8:00 am

Event Information

When you race with PMP Pals for the One-in-a-Million 5K Run/Walk, you’re helping us go the distance with Appendix Cancer. This rare disease, on the rise worldwide, affects one in a million people each year. Lace it up and celebrate life against the odds!

San Antonian Sheri Doss is grateful to be alive. Sheri was diagnosed in 2021 with Pseudomyxoma Peritonei (PMP), closely related to Appendix Cancer. After undergoing an intense lifesaving surgery known as CRS/HIPEC, her health returned due, in large part, to her daily walking routine. Sheri thrives because of her positive attitude, love for walking, and the online support she found through PMP Pals. Wanting to give back to both her local and peer support cancer communities, Sheri created the One in a Million 5K Run/Walk in 2024, to celebrate her 60th birthday and life beyond Pseudomyxoma Peritonei (PMP)/Appendix Cancer. This year will mark the 3rd annual One in a Million 5K Run/Walk. We’re looking forward to your participation, in-person or virtually! Please join our Facebook page at www.tinyurl.com/OIAMFacebook, to keep up with event information, and educate yourself on resources and tips related to PMP/Appendix Cancer.

Additional Information

Net proceeds from the One in a Million 5K Run/Walk benefit PMP Pals, a global network of patients and caregivers living beyond an Appendix Cancer diagnosis, and related conditions like PMP which affect the gastrointestinal system, digestion, and nutrition.  PMP Pals inspires Hope among those living with this rare cancer, providing patient and caregiver Messages of HOPE support programs like mentoring, 1-on-1 contact, twice weekly online community meetings, an annual in-person meet-up, card-writing, and medical community outreach.

As you gather in the race area at LBJ Park, you’ll see educational signs displayed throughout the event space sharing information about Pseudomyxoma Peritonei (PMP)/Appendix Cancer. These signs will also highlight the importance of self-advocacy, listening to your body, and incorporating exercise into your overall health journey.

Thanks to the lifesaving standard of care known as CRS/HIPEC, Sheri can appreciate each day with a walk about town and encourages you to get moving on September 19th! ! Register today and lace it up for PMP/Appendix Cancer!
